Three Tips from an Overcommitted Chick

You know those girl bosses you see running around day to day, slaying the game? Yeah, I aspire to have my life together like her, too.  Can I also look effortlessly flawless while doing it? Thanks.

The good thing is, we are all #GIRLBOSSES in our own ways, mine being that I can somewhat-successfully balance a lot of commitments in the average week.  From two jobs to freelancing, a full course load, on-campus involvement and movie night with my roommates, I’ve had to learn a few ways to manage my overcommitted lifestyle.

Learn to say no.  If you’re already over-committed, start saying ‘no’ now.  Put your time and effort into the commitments you’ve already made instead of adding more to your to-do list.  When it comes time to continue or move on from a commitment, measure its value in your life and make the move that’s best for you.

Schedule yourself.  If you have trouble tackling that never-ending to-do list, force yourself to start.  Checking things off will happen faster once you give yourself time to actually get them done.  Take that extra hour between classes and work to sit down and get some work done.

Be Honest. Being a Girl Boss means being truly you.  Find your limits and let people know what you are and are not physically capable of doing.  You can’t do it all, but you can do a lot.  Expectations need to be set by both you and to whom you are committing something.

Finally, when you’re stressed to the max, always remember that you’re doing a lot of things, and you’re doing them well.  No one else can do what you do like you do so know that your good is very much good enough.
